Murry Gunty

Murry Gunty is the founder and CEO of Black Bear Sports Group, a privately held company formed in 2015 that seeks investments in sports and entertainment facilities and youth sports teams and events. Black Bear focuses on ice arenas in metropolitan areas with compelling demographics, markets with a National Hockey League club presence, and arenas with an existing Tier I or Tier II youth hockey presence​.

Gunty’s lifelong passion for the sport of hockey dates back to his childhood in Portland, Maine, where he spent countless hours playing hockey and watching the former Maine Mariners of the American Hockey League. He has coached and managed his sons’ AA and AAA hockey teams and is passionate about growing the game.

Gunty is also the CEO of Blackstreet Capital Holdings, and has over 30 years of experience as an investment professional. Blackstreet rescues small to mid-sized distressed companies. He has led investments in approximately 40 businesses with aggregate of well over $1 billion in revenue, and has invested over $1.7 billion of equity and subordinated debt capital in over 50 transactions in his career.

Gunty is formerly a GP of Jacobson Partners, a middle-market private equity fund focused on control buyouts of business with up to $150 million in revenue. He is also a former associate of the Blackstone Group, and was a partner in the real estate principal investment area of Lazard Freres & Co. where he co-managed $3 billion of capital in real estate-related private equity funds.

Murry Gunty received an AB from Harvard College and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
